News Release, 12 December 2012
The notice of race and entry form for the 39th Hempel Gosford to Lord Howe Island Race, scheduled for a start in Broken Bay Saturday 6th April 2013, have been distributed to pre-registered interests and are available from the Gosford Sailing Club.
Entries close 22nd February 2013, but due to the high level of interest, the Race Committee urges competitors to return completed entry forms with payment as soon as possible.
Whilst the Race Committee would be pleased to accommodate all entries, the mooring restrictions will limit the race to a maximum of 21 entries, the likely breakdown being;
Lagoon; 11 x shallow, i.e. less than 2.3m draft.
South Passage; 5 x deep, i.e. greater than 2.3m draft.
South Passage sponsored; Up to 5 to accommodate greater than 2.3m draft. (2 options taken, with 3 more available)
Turn around deep; 2 x for vessels with IRC TCF above 1.250.
First entries have been received this afternoon with CYCA Director Andrew Wenham first in by entering his VO60 Southern Excellence.
Southern Excellence took line honours in 2006 as Getaway Sailing and has the fastest time for the race via a spectator mark off Terrigal.
Southern Excellence also competed in the 2001-2002 Volvo around the World race as Djuice Dragons.
However Wenham and his crew will need to have Southern Excellence performing at her best to get near Merit’s (another VO60) overall Race Record of 33.34.21 hours set in 2002.
Another keen Lord Howe regular Warwick Sherman was quick off the mark and has submitted his entry for his new Sydney GTS43 Occasional Coarse Language Too.
OCL Too recently had an IRC win in the CYCA’s 60nm Lion Island-Botany Bay race and Sherman and his crew are racing very competitively in the CYCA’s Bluewater Pointscore in both IRC and ORCi.
Sherman previously scored an overall Gosford to Lord Howe Island race win in 2000 with his original Occasional Coarse Language (a Cookson 12) taking out the event which was then raced under IMS conditions.
Occasional Coarse Language Too’s next assignment is the Sydney to Hobart on Boxing Day.
There are still 3 mooring sponsorship opportunities available for competitors who wish to secure long term involvement in the race.
Interested parties should contact the Race Director lhi@gosfordsailingclub.com.au
It would also be prudent to advise the Committee of any recent IRC racing achievements that may enhance your chances of selection and any previous G2LHI race results.
Please also note that under section 14 of the NoR , Hull Identification, if you have a permanent bow number affixed, please note your number on the entry form.
Please forward this information to the Race Director.
I look forward to receiving your entry.
Regards,
Tony Evans
Race Director
